Daily Something: Drawing

Drawing update: June 30, 2013

I've continued the sketch daily for a week now. Here are my sketches.

Monday was "Microscopic organism". I Googled that and decided to draw a chicken embryo.

Tuesday's topic was "your swimsuit" with the alternate topic of "your snowsuit". I like my winter coat.

Wednesday's topic was "expansion": Happy yeast = expanding dough (AKA how to bake bread)

Thursday had the fun topic of "aircraft of the future". In the future, we can have the past (well, what's in stories of the past).

Fridays are "free draw" days. Rachel suggested an apple pie. I accidentally drew a cherry pie instead.

Saturdays are serious topics. This week was figure drawing. I did 3 one minute sketches of figures on this site http://reference.sketchdaily.net/

Sundays are still life topics. Today's topic was "swing sets". I had to try to draw the reference image since I don't think there is a swing set anywhere in walking distance.

Daily Something: Haiku 126

Haiku 126: shelter

[They moved away from the edge. There is grass and little plants now. I'm not sure how long they've been walking. But look, they are walking.]

Daily Something: Haiku 125

Haiku 125: edge

[The ladder just, you know, vanished. Ladders do that sometimes. They are tricksy like that. Like cookies.]

Haiku 124: planning

[This is a representation of how well I plan things most of the time. It seems to work out fine.]

Daily Something: Haiku 123

Haiku 123: thunder

[The word I was given today was thunder. And so... I made something based on that word. Good job, me. Good job.]

Daily Something: Haiku 122

Haiku 122: top

[A change in scenery is always nice. Even more when moving around in that scenery involves less effort.]

Daily Something: drawing

Drawing: flower in a shot glass

Drawing is not easy. It's even less easy when I can't find my gummy eraser. It turned out okay. I still need to work on contrast.

Slightly different view of the actual:

[That does not look like a fun ladder to climb.]

Daily Something: Adventures in Naming

Adventures in Naming: berries

[Drawing stick figures doing things is more difficult than I thought it would be. At least they sort of look like they are climbing... Also, names are weird.]

Daily something: Haiku 120

Haiku 120: up

[I don't know what's up there. It might just be a ladder going to nowhere. And I think all stick figures should have curly hair.]

Daily Something: Haiku 119

Haiku 119: help

[I was told that I should make drawings with my haiku, even if it has nothing to do with the haiku. This may make the "For the non-imaged" part make less sense without an image for context. hm.]

For the non-imaged:

hey, i can help you.
you just have to come with me.
we just have to climb.

Day 118: floor

[But the floor is such a wonderful place.]

For the non-imaged:

get up off the floor.
you know there's work to be done.
can't lay there all day.

Daily Something: Day 0

Day 0: feather, charcoal on paper

[There is a SketchDaily subreddit. Feather was the theme today. It's actually the first day I participated in the 6+ months I've been subscribed.]

AHAD: Day 117

Day 117: baking

[It's true. However, if you are the baking, people accuse you of making them fat. As if you force feed them. It's ridiculous.]

For the non-imaged:

creates happiness,
and not just for the baker.
we all like baked goods.

AHAD: Day 116

Day 116: humidity

[When I got home from work it was 94 out and felt like 102. Also, the air is thick.]

For the non-imaged:

fine, make my hair frizz
and make the air feel heavy,
why is it so hot...?

AHAD: Day 115

Day 115: breakfast

bonus haiku:

breakfast that seems good
second one even better
to please the stomach

[The bonus haiku is by Rachel, who also supplied the word. I think I inspired her word choice by telling her the story about how I mentioned to people that it was time for second breakfast while wearing my tree of Gondor shirt. It was unintentional, but it was time for my second breakfasts. Two breakfasts are important.]

For the non-imaged:

well, one is good, yes,
but two is even better.
and maybe a third.

AHAD: Day 114

Day 114: thunder

[More storms. Thundery storms. Loud and shaking. Yay?]

For the non-imaged:

why are you so loud?
did somebody anger you?
and stop shaking things!

Monday, June 10, 2013

AHAD: Day 113

Day 113: stand-in

[That didn't photograph well at all, did it? I think my pencil is on the driver's seat of my car. Because of shopping lists. What happened to all the other pencils? Who knows...]

For the non-imaged:

where is my pencil?
all i have is a sharpie.
at least it's silver.

How to bake bread

I'm finally getting back into baking bread. By that, I mean I baked a loaf of bread today. Just some simple country white bread. So, if you are interested, here are some steps to follow to bake your own bread. Actually, it's more of a guideline.

Step 1: Feed the yeast
Baking bread is essentially raising your own yeast farm. The yeast needs plenty to eat to thrive. They like the sugars from flour and sugar. Some other ingredients can also be added, depending on the type of bread you are making.
Happy, frothy yeast

Step 2: Beat up the yeast
The P.C. term for this is "kneading", but you are really just beating up the yeast and its food. You usually do this until the dough substance is smooth.
Not yet smooth

Step 3: Let the yeast recover
Yeast after being "kneaded", the yeast likes to take a long rest. Intermittent punching of the yeast and its food is usually required. (Some people make themselves feel better about this abuse by saying it is necessary to remove the air from the dough substance.) During this variable amount of resting time, the yeast will make the dough substance grow.
Shh... nap time

Step 4: Kill the yeast
This entire process just leads to the death of the yeast. You raise them to do a job and once it's completed, you place them into a terribly hot oven to face their death. You  monster.
Delicious yeast graveyard

AHAD: Day 112

Day 112: bread

[I spent part of the day baking bread. One type turned out nice, but I did something wrong with the other type... not sure what.]

For the non-imaged:

knead it for a while.
let it take a nice long rest.
bake it then enjoy.

AHAD: Day 111

Day 111: reasons

[Only about 4 more months of it being boiling outside to go.]

For the non-imaged:

i don't understand
why i moved somewhere so hot.
oh, right, for a job.

Friday, June 7, 2013

AHAD: Day 110

Day 110: area

[They're all easy to figure out, so don't worry about it.]

For the non-imaged:

it's just pi r squared
or it's the length times the width.
well, there are some more.

AHAD: Day 109

Day 109: typical

[First tropical storm of the year. It's coming up by way of Florida.]

For the non-imaged:
the gentle rain drops
mock me while the pressure stabs.
i hate storm systems.

AHAD: Day 108

Day 108: obvious

[Really, did you not know? How foolish you must feel.]

For the non-imaged:

i am just awesome.
yup, that's all there is to it.
pure, simple awesome.

Tuesday, June 4, 2013

AHAD: Day 107

Day 107: uninspired

[I am going on the belief that if I'm persistent, I'll eventually get back to where I was and have inspiration for haiku.]

For the non-imaged:

don't know what to write
but feel obligated to.
soon i'll write better.

Monday, June 3, 2013

AHAD: Day 106

Day 106: options

[Seriously, why are there so many options? I should pick one and then not be on the internet as much, but I don't see that happening any time soon.]

For the non-imaged:

there's so much to do.
i don't know what to do first.
so i'll do nothing.

Sunday, June 2, 2013

AHAD: Day 105

Day 105: sharing

[Once more haiku form in my mind that I'm willing to share, it'll be easier to post according to this self-inflicted schedule.]

For the non-imaged:

there are some haiku
which will just stay in my head,
they are not for you.

Saturday, June 1, 2013

AHAD: Day 104

Day 104: tardy

[I'll get back into the habit of writing and posting soon.]

For the non-imaged:

forgot to write one
before going out somewhere.
at least it's up now
