When the School Year Ends

When the School Year Ends
by Barbara Miller

There’s a time when the school year ends
And before the summer begins,
And there the papers pile tall and high,
And there the students wonder why,
And there the teachers try not to sigh,
As the final exams begin.

Let us face these tests where our doubts run free
And the questions prod and poke.
Past the pits of our stomachs as they churn
We shall think hopeful thoughts of the grades that we’ll earn,
And watch as the clock hands slowly turn
To the time when the school year ends.

Yes we’ll think hopeful thoughts of the grades that we’ll earn,
And we’ll watch as the clock hands slowly turn,
For the students, they wait, and the students, they yearn
For the time when the school year ends.
