Advent Calendar: Day 25

A Visit From Santa Puppy

'Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house
Lucky was patrolling, quiet as a mouse.
His humans were tucked into their beds with such care,
In hopes that Santa Puppy soon would be there.

The kitty was nestled all snug on the couch,
Though this failed to make her less of a grouch.
With every room now secure, and food on his plate,
Lucky set his patrol as his shift would be late.

Then outside the door there arose such a clatter,
Lucky sprang into action to see what was the matter.
Away towards the door he flew like a flash,
Slid across the tile, and stopped with a crash.

He picked up his head and shook it to and fro,
then looked around, wondering which way he should go.
Off to the door to see what there he could smell?
Or up to the window to see what his sight would tell?

Before he could make up his mind, he grew very scared;
At the bottom of the door a dog flap appeared!
Then in stuck a nose which had whiskers so white
And let in the chill of that cold winter’s night.

Lucky stayed very still, not knowing what to do;
He just stared at the door as a doggie came through.
He was dressed in some clothes, a red hat and a coat.
He even had a jingly collar at his throat.

Lucky knew in an instant just who this dog was.
From the hat on his head to the fluff of his paws,
A large red velvet sack made everything clear,
Lucky knew it for sure, Santa Puppy was here!

Lucky sat in the corner, not daring to breathe,
As he watched Santa Puppy shake out his sleeve.
He moved with his bag over to where the cat lay
And took out a toy mousy to act as her prey.

To the kitchen he then went, to find Lucky’s dish,
But he suddenly stopped, his tail went swish swish.
There was a plate with biscuits for him to take;
They smelled delicious, they were freshly baked.

After eating a few, he found Lucky’s plate,
He moved very quickly, he was now running late.
He left Lucky some bones, and some bacon crisps, too.
And next to the dish, a nice smelly shoe.

Then outside Lucky heard a whistle and a call,
“Come on, Santa Puppy! We’ll be late after all!”
Santa Puppy rushed to the door as quick as can be,
He made running on tile look so easy!

He looked over at Lucky and gave him a wink;
Then quickly he was gone, in less than a blink.
Out into the night, a voice did declare,

“Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year!”

Advent Calendar: Day 21

Gift of the Magi

Kat sat in the window, looking outside. She let out a sigh and started to clean her paw. It was Christmas day and she still hadn’t figured out what to get Lucky. They always said they wouldn’t get presents for each other, because they were animals and didn’t have money, but Kat was felt like she needed to get a present for Lucky this year.

Kat hopped down from the windowsill and walked into the living room. She stopped to bat at her favorite toy mouse a few times. It used to smell like catnip, but the scent had faded weeks ago. She looked at the door. Lucky would be home from his walk soon. She didn’t have much time left to find a present.

Kat picked up the mouse and carried it into the kitchen. Since it didn’t smell like catnip anymore, Kat thought she might as well trade it for a gift for Lucky. When Kat walked into the kitchen, she smelled bacon. After a bit of searching, Kat discovered that the bacon was on the counter. It wasn’t warm, but it was still bacon. She left the mouse next to the plate and took a piece of bacon.

Kat wanted to surprise Lucky by putting the bacon on his favorite plate, but she couldn’t find it anywhere. Their humans must be washing it, she thought. Kat decided to wait until the plate was put back by the water dish before giving Lucky the bacon. She ran to her room and hid the bacon under her food dish.

A few minutes later, Kat heard the door open and Lucky come inside. They always get a treat when Lucky returns from a walk, so she ran to the door and sat in her assigned spot. After they finished their treats, Lucky told Kat that he had a surprise for her. Lucky asked Kat to bring him her favorite toy mouse.

This made Kat sad. She explained to Lucky how she didn’t have the mouse anymore because she traded it for a present for him. Kat told Lucky how she had planned to surprise him with the present by putting it on his favorite dish. At this point in Kat’s story Lucky started laughing. Kat thought he was laughing at her, so she ran to her room.

Lucky followed Kat a minute later with the present that he got her. It was some catnip for her mouse. He knew it was her favorite toy and that the catnip in it was old. Lucky then explained that he traded his favorite plate for the catnip. Kat laughed and showed Lucky the bacon that she got for him.

Lucky and Kat both loved their presents and ate them happily. Even though they didn’t have anything to put the bacon or catnip on, Kat and Lucky thought they were the best presents in the world. When they were finished, they decided it was a good time to curl up on their blankets and take a nap.

Later that day, their humans wondered why Kat’s mouse was on the counter and Lucky’s dish was locked in the pantry.

Advent Calendar: Day 20

Lucky, the best dog ever
Had a very nubby tail.
And if you ever saw him,
You would do a Kermit flail.

All of the other doggies
Were jealous of how cute he was.
They never let their humans
Ogle at his fluffy paws.

Then one foggy Christmas Eve
Humans had to say:
"Lucky with your nose so cute,
won't you come and sniff my boots?"

Then all the doggies sniffed him
as they wagged their tails with glee.
Lucky’s the cutest dog ever,
He’ll go down in history!

Unaware of the Kermit flail? See below!

Advent Calendar: Day 18

Bacon Smells

Silly humans, my dear humans,
Dress in their pajamas.
In the air there’s
A strong smell of bacon.

See them cooking, while I’m looking,
As the time passes by,
And in every room now there will be:

Bacon smells, bacon smells,
It’s breakfast time in the kitchen.
Sizzling, Sizzling!
Soon it will be time to eat.

Now I’m waiting, anticipating,
For the sizzling to stop.
Then my humans will plate
Up their breakfast.

Then it’s my turn, how I do yearn,
For that bacon-y taste,
But until then there will only be:

Bacon smells, bacon smells,
It’s breakfast time in the kitchen.
Sizzling, Sizzling!
Soon it will be time to eat.

Knocking Over the Christmas Tree

Knocking over the Christmas tree
Because they put it on the floor.

Because she is a huge brat.

Advent Calendar: Day 11

It’s a Wonderful Lucky

Lucky was having a bad day. The cat ate some of his breakfast, it rained during his walk, and someone moved his blanket. He even lost one of his humans when he took a short nap. He couldn’t find her anywhere he looked. Lucky was so tired of everything going wrong that he wished he was never born.

Suddenly, Lucky saw Snoopy wearing a Santa hat. Snoopy explained that he was there to show Lucky what life would be like if he had never been born. Lucky didn’t believe that Snoopy would be there talking to him, so Lucky just ignored him and walked into the other room.

The room he walked into wasn’t a part of his home. It was smaller. There were cat toys everywhere and it smelled like kitty litter and catnip. He went to turn around, but there was no door behind him. He wasn’t sure where he was, so he decided to explore.

When he entered the next room, he saw Kat sitting on top of a tall scratching tower with several cats below her. Kat was telling the other cats what to scratch up and when. All of the furniture was in tatters and there was cat hair everywhere. Lucky saw one of his humans sitting on the couch looking sad and defeated. There was nothing she could do to stop the cats from ruining everything.

Lucky suddenly realized that if he never found his human, his human’s life would be run by cats. Lucky was who kept the cats in line and limited the number of cats in the house. Lucky couldn’t bear to see his human looking so sad. He started to run all around the house looking for Snoopy. He wanted things to go back as they were. He wanted to live. He wanted to protect his humans.

Suddenly Lucky woke up. He realized he was running in his sleep. He quickly looked around and noticed everything was as it should be. He walked to his human and got some scratches. Lucky sighed, knowing that life was as it should be.

Lucky's Guide to Ugly Christmas Sweaters

Some humans like to put sweaters on their dogs. Some dogs enjoy this. Those dogs are crazy. Here are some ugly sweaters that you can put on your crazy dog.

Here is one from Petco.

Here is one from PetSmart.

This one from Macy's is just ridiculous.

Just remember: Blankets are better than sweaters.

Advent Calendar: Day 9

Lucky’s Christmas List

Lucky never made a Christmas list before, but he heard the other dogs talking about it. They told Lucky that every year they write down a list of things they want to get from Santa Puppy. After their list is complete, they leave it next to a piece of bacon on Christmas Eve. When they wake up Christmas morning, the things they want are in their stockings or under the tree.

Lucky thought this sounded like a good idea. He got a piece of paper and a pencil and started to think. What would he ask Santa Puppy to bring him?

Lucky had plenty of blankets.
He got bacon nearly every day.
His humans took him for walks and made sure he had food to eat.
He even got a biscuit every time he came into the house.

Lucky couldn’t think of anything he needed. While thinking, Lucky suddenly got sad. He remembered when he didn’t have a home. He didn’t have a warm, dry place to sleep. He just wandered around and ate whatever he could find. He thought about the dogs he met while he was homeless. Did they find a home like Lucky did?

Lucky decided he had more than he could ask for. He only wrote one thing on his list: For all dogs to find a forever home with nice humans like he did.

Advent Calendar: Day 8

White Christmas (Lucky Version)

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the bacon simmers,
And the snowfall glimmers,
While I’m outside eating snow.

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every long nap that I take
May your humans take time to bake
And may all your Christmas trees be fake.
